What’s Your Spouse’s Love Language?

In 1992, Gary Chapman’s book, The 5 Love Languages, was released- a great way to boost your marriage journey.  Since then, over 20 million copies (in English) have been sold. It has also been translated in 49 languages.  It was the #1 New York Times bestseller for 8 years running.

It Made A Difference

Reading Dr. Chapman’s book (and learning to speak each other’s Love Language) made a BIG difference in our marriage.  In Sept. 2018, we wrote the following post What Language are You Speaking to explain some of the specific ways that the book helped us.

Last month, we led a marriage enrichment on Love Languages, using Dr. Chapman’s materials. Because so many people learned about Love Languages over the last 30 + years, there was a concern that this topic may have become outdated.  There’s always something new on the market. But one thing is clear – The 5 Love Languages has helped countless couples because the concept is so easily digestible and practical.

This Makes Sense

When the marriage enrichment was over, we went to dinner with one of the couples who had attended.  This couple has been married for 50 years and couldn’t say enough about how impressed they were by what they learned.  “I’m convinced this guy is on to something,” they said.  “I can see using this with our kids and even grandkids.”  Interesting statement, because Dr. Chapman has written subsequent books: The 5 Love Languages of ChildrenThe 5 Love Languages Singles EditionThe 5 Love Languages of Teenagers, and The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace

We All Need Support

Here’s the bottom line…we’re not here to write a commercial for Dr. Chapman’s books.  The goal of The Couples Post is to encourage you and offer support on your marriage journey.  Our personal experience (along with millions of others) is that when we intentionally speak in each other’s love language, our relationship is much better. This also makes it easier to start conversations that might otherwise be difficult.

Go For It!
