Dancing in the Kitchen
Janine: This weekend we celebrated our 29th Wedding Anniversary! Yay!
Ken was on call for work, so we couldn’t go far, and we didn’t want to try to go out for a nice meal, for fear that it might be interrupted. Here’s what we DID do.
We danced. We put on our wedding song, and we danced in the kitchen. That led to a couple more songs.
Ken: Music is a powerful thing, and dancing to a simple song can do (and did) wonders for our relationship. It took us back in time – particularly because they were songs we hadn’t heard in a long time – songs from our dating days and from the first dance on our wedding night. The physical closeness and the feelings that emerged as we swayed back and forth created a magical moment.
Janine: So, this week, we encourage you to dance with your spouse! Set down your phone (or whatever device you are reading this on at the moment), turn on a song, take your spouse by the hand and go dance. – let the kids join in too….they’ll love it.
Here’s short list of romantic songs (in case you can’t come up with one):
Marry Me – Train Because You Loved Me – Celine Dion
The Rose – Bette Midler God Gave Me You – Blake Shelton
All of Me – John Legend The Way You Look Tonight – Frank Sinatra
Faithfully – Journey Can’t Help Falling in Love – Elvis Presley
Your Song – Elton John Come Away with Me – Nora Jones
Ho Hey – The Lumineers You’re the Reason – Calum Scott
Wanted – Hunter Hayes A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
Ken: Stay home. Dance in the kitchen. Dance out on the deck. It doesn’t cost a thing, but it’s worth more than many of the things we could buy. We don’t dance very often, but when we do, there’s just something quite remarkable about it.
